The way to Mount Rushmore, SD

After a few days without wifi - thanks ATT :( - I'm now posting again.

After Belle Fourche, we headed to Mount Rushmore and on our way we passed by Deadwood, SD. Literally, Dead.

That's it. Deadwood. :)
Now onto Rushmore.

A bit of history on Rushmore.

This is the view from outside the gate. Perfect! We saw it! Now can we leave?
Nope.
Join me and enjoy the views.

The artist who designed and supervised the creation of the statues.

The flags of all the states are aligned along the path to the monument. Next to the flag, it states when the specific state was included in the union.

Swing seat used by the workers who carved Mount Rushmore.

The budget.

The whole work was done by using explosives. Big explosives and small explosives, but all explosives.

And like at all national parks, the kids worked for their junior ranger badge.

Something curious: at Rushmore, trees pop up from tiny holes in the rocks.

Another interesting fact: Rushmore was carved using 6' models. The real thing is 60' tall.
These are the models.

Liked it? Follow me now to crazy horse.
Crazy who???
Crazy horse.

Crazy Horse was a native american who fought the whites - Americans - to defend the native american rights. A few miles away from Mount Rushmore, there is a still unfinished tribute to Crazy Horse. Much bigger than Rushmore.

Can you see his profile on the upper right side of the rock?
It is indeed huge, and the hole native american vs whites story very sad.

While at Crazy Horse, we got to see some native american dances performed by real native Americans.
